Lonely The Brave & Lower Than Atlantis @ Rock Sound Christmas Ball

Less than two weeks until Christmas, the days are getting colder, the people more festive, the perfect time for my first Christmas party this year.

Monday night, 8th December, Rock Sound hosted a rather rock ‘n’ roll Christmas ball at the Koko in Camden with performances by ‘Lonely The Brave‘ and ‘Lower Than Atlantis’.

Unsurprisingly the place was sold out as good handmade music was on offer.

Warming up the crowd were ‘Decade’ all dressed in very fancy Christmas jumpers, front man Alex Sears even sporting a lit-up one.

Kokos ceiling looked liked a sparkling Christmas tree, a sea full of red, yellow and green dots, reflected by the iconic disco ball hanging in the middle of the venue.

Next up it was time for ‘Lonely The Brave‘ to hit the stage and they started things off beautifully with ‘Call Of Horses’. There’s something magical about this band, after having seen Lonely The Brave in October for the first time, I was wondering if this *magic* will get me again.

What should I say, it certainly did. From the first word out of singer David Jakes mouth until the last of the evening. His voice just gets me every time.

Their first single ‘Backroads’ definitely had the crowd singing, and I couldn’t contain myself as Lonely The Brave performed one of my favourites ‘ Victory Line’. Such an amazing song.

The five piece has a certain aura around them, captivating everyone who is willing to join the ride. The bands performance was on point with guitarist Mark Trotter talking to the crowd several times. The set finished with a powerful and emotional rendition of ‘The Blue, The Green’.

By that time, I was absolutely gone, I hung on to every word David sang, heard myself singing along and basically got absolutely lost in this song. I mean, how can you not?

While the stage got set up for the headliners, the sound of Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’ as well as the Pogues ‘Fairytale Of New York’ were being played and the entire venue sang along. This was really fun and suddenly the wait didn’t seem too long.

The area in front of the stage was super crowded and everyone was expectantly waiting for ‘Lower Than Atlantis’.

The four lads entered the stage at 9:30pm accompanied by roaring ‘LTA’ cheers. Their set started with the impressive ‘English Kids In America’ and Koko went crazy. From the very start of Lower Than Atlantis’ set there was some serious crowd action going on, fancy Christmas hats bouncing up and down others getting absolutely bonkers in the mosh pit.

It was a rather wild start, but that’s just how we like it.

Singer Mike Duce definitely knows how to get everyone’s attention, he casually announced that they’d be shooting a video for their upcoming single, right now, right here. Needles to say, he got a massive cheer from the crowd, and urged everyone who wanted to be part of the video to go crazy and the fans surely didn’t disappoint.

The mayhem was followed up with ‘Emily’, and the set continued with a nice mix of old and new tunes from Lower Than Atlantis several albums.

The Watford lads gave their live debut of ‘Merry Christmas (Wherever You Are)’ and turned Koko into a winter wonderland by making it snow inside. That was something special.

Things got wrapped up with the absolute banger ‘Here We Go’ and the party people gave it their best one last time.

This was a rather not so silent night, but for sure a holy one 🙂
